Cheryl was born in Houston, TX, and was adopted at the age of two. She was raised attending Second Baptist Church in Houston. Fortunately, she was able to work in the church office while attending Houston Baptist University. Following two years at Houston Baptist, she transferred to Baylor University in Waco, Texas. After graduating from Baylor with her Bachelor of Science in Education, she taught in and around the Waco area for thirty-one years until she retired.
After many years of retirement, she felt something was missing in her life. She came to realize that she missed teaching. Teaching has been her purpose and joy in life. She began to regret retiring so early, and decided it was time to return to the classroom.
After relocating to Joshua, Texas, her search for a new adventure in teaching began. She investigated many school districts in and around the area. When she found HCCA, she was so excited. She wanted to learn more and was thrilled when a teaching opportunity presented itself. After speaking with Mrs. Matejka and touring the campus, she knew “that is the place I belong. I am blessed to have this opportunity and so look forward to becoming a part of the HCCA family.”
