Elementary Music/Art/HS Music

West Texas A&M University

Hi there Warriors! I love being both the Elementary Music teacher and Elementary Art teacher at HCCA. Music education is my passion, and opening the doorway for students to experience music brings me so much joy and contentment. One of the greatest joys as a music teacher is giving my students opportunities to learn and explore music in fun ways so they can experience how music can transform them. Music education is vital to a well rounded learning experience, and I truly believe the potential that it unlocks in the many facets of our lives. I am committed to ensuring each child feels successful, capable, and celebrated while they are in music class, whether we are singing, playing instruments, or learning something brand new! Every week we strive to “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord,” Psalm 100:1, and celebrate the wonderful gift of music. My love for music began in dance class when I was a young girl, and then flourished when I learned to play the clarinet in sixth grade band. After being a part of my middle school and high school band program for seven years, enjoying every minute of it, I knew I wanted music to always be a part of my everyday life. My first musical job was being a private clarinet lesson teacher, even while attending college! I attended West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas and received my B.S. in Music Education with a certification to teach K-12 Music. When I am not on the HCCA campus, you can find me teaching clarinet masterclasses and private clarinet lessons for Kerr MS and Centennial High School. I also love being the Elementary Art teacher for HCCA! An art teacher’s superpower is the ability to quickly tune into a student’s inner world through their art and make meaningful connections about their work. Art class provides a special place for students to connect with their creativity, process their feelings, tell stories, and express their inner worlds through their work. As an art teacher, it is my job to create a “safe place” environment and teach all the students to respect each other for who they are and what they create, because we are using our unique gifts from God. Art allows our students to practice a wide range of skills that are useful not only for life but also for learning. As an art teacher, I love to inspire our students to become artists, critical thinkers, decision makers and creators. The other important part of my life is spending quality time with my family, and watching my son grow and learn everyday. We are dog people and have two very loved Cocker Spaniels, Roxy and Jazzi, who are always right in the middle of everything we do! I also enjoy cooking, gardening, being the Children’s Director for my church, being outside in the midst of God’s beautiful masterpieces, and listening to all kinds of music. I am proud to be a Warrior, and look forward to another great year in music and art with your children at HCCA! Life is a Song, Love is the Music.
