Elementary P.E.

Dunfermline College of Physical Education

I am the elementary P.E. teacher with an accent at Holy Cross Christian Academy. I am originally from Scotland, hence the accent, and have worked at this fantastic school since moving to Burleson. I graduated from Dunfermline College of Physical Education, now part of the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in 1982 and have been teaching P.E. ever since! I worked at St. Margaret’s School for Girls in Aberdeen until 2002, when my family moved to Lafayette, Louisiana. Talk about a culture shock! There, I worked at Ascension Episcopal School until my husband’s work brought us to Burleson in 2014. I always wanted to work with children and enjoyed all sports, so becoming a P.E teacher was a natural progression. I love teaching P.E. Who else gets to have fun “playing” with the children as they learn new skills? The expression on a student’s face when they have mastered a new skill, be it hopping on one foot, catching a ball, making a basket, or jumping rope, is priceless and makes my job such a joy. Not only do the children learn and develop their physical abilities, they grow as a team member, as an encourager and as a good sport. My husband and I have been married to my husband since 1984 and we have two children. In my spare time, I enjoy working out and playing tennis. I am very proud to have been part of a tennis team that represented Texas in the National Championships in Florida in November 2017. I feel very fortunate that my old-fashioned, knock on the door with resume in hand approach to job hunting brought me to Holy Cross right when Mrs Matjeka needed a substitute teacher. As a former colleague would have said, “That’s a God wink, right there.”-
